2013 Slamdance Film Festival Winning Film to Play at Lyric Theatre

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lexington will host a showing of the award winning film, My Name Is Faith, at the Lyric Theatre on Thursday, June 27.  This movie received the Audience Award for the Best Documentary Feature at the 2013 Slamdance Film Festival.  It was also an official selection at three other prestigious film festivals, including the LA Indie Festival.  The producer/director of the film, and Faith’s mother, Tiffany Junker will attend the showing in Lexington.

In the US it is estimated five children a day die from neglect.  But what about those who endure neglect and survive?  This documentary follows Faith, a 13-year-old girl who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) as she heals from the trauma inflicted by her birth mother’s drug-addicted lifestyle.

“Kids who are hurt have to learn how to trust and how to be vulnerable, I’m still working on it and it’s hard but its achievable, if I can do it, you can too,” said Faith in her letter on what she wants to accomplish with this film.

In 2012, local CASA volunteers gave 143 children a voice in court, a cause for celebration.  Yet sadly, 1,140 more children in Lexington are in need of help.  The 1,100+ children represent only the most severe documented cases in the court system.  It is vital that CASA receive financial support from the community to sustain and expand their services, to bridge the gap between the children currently served and the many, many more that desperately need the help of CASA.

“Just because a child has a past doesn’t mean they are broken forever.  They can heal from it,” said Beth Thomas, a former child trauma victim.

The reception and two movie tickets are available for a donation of $100 and single movie tickets for $15.  Tickets can be purchased by contacting the CASA of Lexington office at (859) 246-4313 or through the Lyric Theatre box office.  The reception will begin at 6 PM, followed by the 7 PM movie showing and question and answer session with Tiffany Junker, at the Lyric Theatre located at 300 East 3rd Street in Lexington.  For more information on the documentary and to watch a trailer visit
